Level 2 Paediatric Emergency First Aid - 1 day

This two-day course in Paediatric First Aid has been developed for those who are responsible for the supervision of babies, infants and children. This course meets the criteria set by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is OFSTED approved.
Who should attend?
This course will be of interest to teachers, child minders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone working within childcare or education. This course is open to anyone aged 14 yrs or over, although under 16s will need to be accompanied by an adult (family member, guardian or written family consent)
What you will learn
The course focuses on how to deal with a range of First Aid incidents involving babies, infants or children, with the aim to provide delegates with a sound knowledge and understanding of paediatric First Aid procedures.

- Responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- First aid kit and contents
- Accident and incident reporting
- Primary and Secondary assessment
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Breathing and Circulation
- Principles of Resuscitation inc CPR for a child and baby
- Disorders of the circulation inc Shock
- Wounds and Bleeding
- Disorders of conscience inc epilepsy and fainting
- Chocking
- Asthma and diabetic conditions
- Head injuries
- Seizures
- Burns and scalds
- Sprains, strains, fractures and dislocations
- Poisoning, bites and stings
- Foreign objects
- Effects of heat and cold
- Other conditions meningitis, croup
Course duration
The course is usually held over two consecutive days totalling 16hrs including coffee and lunch breaks however, we can tailor courses to meet your specific needs. The course is normally held at Bridge Safety and Training premises although, if required we can deliver the course at the client’s premises specifically for their employees.
Assessment and certification
Assessment is continuous throughout, followed by a practical assessment at the end of the course. Upon successful completion, first aiders receive certification valid for three years after which, a re-qualification course becomes necessary. It is strongly recommended by the HSE that you update your skills by taking an annual refresher. Please note that although anyone aged 14+ can attend this course and be certificated as such. It is only when the young learner reaches the age of 16 and able to work full-time; that the official title of First Aider can come into effect.
