Needle Stick / Bio Hazard Awareness

Who Should Attend?
This course is suitable for anyone who may come into contact with discarded hypodermic syringes or other biological contamination in particular those engaged in waste management or the construction, maintenance, refurbishment, and demolition of property, or for anyone who has responsibility to manage property.

What you will learn
?

The course is designed to equip delegates with the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to identify the dangers associated with needle stick/bio-hazards, and how to limit the chance of exposure through risk reduction and the safe disposal of sharps and bio-hazard material without the risk of injuring themselves or others.

Course content

- Types of Bio-hazard and where found
- Cryptosporidium (Bird droppings)
- Leptospirosis (weil’s disease)
- Brucellosis
- Blood & Other Bodily fluids
- HIV
- Hepatitis
- Tetanus
- Risk elimination
- Sharps protection and disposal
- Actions to take if found
- PPE requirements
- Action to be taken on accidental needle-stick injury

Course duration

The course is usually held over half a day; totalling 4hrs including coffee breaks. The course is normally held on client’s premises, and delivered specifically for their employees. If required, the course can be held at Bridge Safety and Training Safety premises

Assessment and certification

Assessment is a combination of tutor observation and a multiple choice assessment paper. Upon successful completion, delegates receive a certification of attendance valid for three years after which, a retake of the Needle stick/Bio hazard awareness course will be required to renew the qualification for a further 3 years.
