Family First Aid - 1 Day

This 1 day course is designed to allow families to learn First Aid together. Your family will learn the essential skills required to help each other in an emergency. You will develop your knowledge, confidence and ability in order to know what to do in a variety of incidents encountered around the home.



Who should attend?

This course is designed for all members of the family. For members of the family aged 16 or under they will need to be accompanied by an adult (family member or guardian).


What you will learn

This course will give you and your family the skills and knowledge required to deal with a wide range of incidents that are common in and about the home.


Course content

- Responsibilities of the First Aider
- Action in an Emergency
- Primary Survey
- Secondary Assessment
- Breathing and Circulation
- Disorders of Respiration/Airway obstruction and breathing disorders inc. choking, smoke inhalation, drowning, hyperventilation and asthma.
- Disorders of the Circulation inc fainting, shock and heart attack
- Wounds and Bleeding
- Bites and Stings
- Disorders of Consciousness inc head injuries, epilepsy, stroke, and diabetes
- Foreign objects
- Burns and Scalds
- Bones, Joints and Muscle Injuries
- Poisoning
- Effects of Heat and Cold
- Child and Baby Basic Life Support


Course duration

The course is usually held over a one day period totalling 7hrs including coffee/lunch breaks however, we can tailor courses to meet your specific needs. The course is normally held at Bridge Safety and Training premises although, if required we can deliver the course at the client’s premises specifically for their employees and family members.

Assessment and certification

Assessment is visual throughout. Upon successful completion, first aiders receive certification valid for three years after which, a repeat the Family First Aid Course will be required to renew your qualification for a further 3 years. It is strongly recommended that you update your skills by taking an annual refresher.


Support

We are committed to supporting our delegates therefore upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to access first aid advice from our HSE approved instructors should you have any queries in the future. We will remind you when your qualification requires updating and inform you on any legislation change that may occur.
