Level 2 Activity First Aid - 2 Day
This 2 day course is designed for people who take part or have a responsibility for taking groups of people on activity/ leisure and sporting outings such as hill walking, climbing, bike rides, rafting, camping, and sports etc. You will develop your knowledge, confidence and ability in order to know what to do in a variety of activity related incidents.
Who should attend?
This course will be of interest to anyone who is involved in sporting or outdoor activities or may have a responsibility for taking groups of people on activity/ leisure outings such as, youth/ group leaders and outdoor enthusiasts. This course is open to anyone aged 14 yrs. or over, although under 16s will need to be accompanied by an adult (family member, guardian or written family consent)
What you will learn
This course will give you the skills and knowledge required to deal with a wide range of incidents that are related to sporting/outdoor activities. Day one of the course comprises of the Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus. The second day focuses on Activity related First Aid.
Course content
- Responsibilities of the Activity First Aider
- Casualty Management & First Aid kits inc. Action in an Emergency
- Primary Survey & Secondary Assessment
- Breathing and Circulation
- Principles of Resuscitation inc CPR
- Disorders of Respiration/Airway obstruction and breathing disorders inc. choking, drowning, hyperventilation and asthma.
- Disorders of the Circulation inc fainting, shock and heart attack
- Wounds and Bleeding
- Bites and Stings
- Disorders of Consciousness inc head injuries, epilepsy, stroke, and diabetes
- Foreign objects
- Burns and Scalds
- Bones, Joints and Muscle Injuries
- Poisoning
- Effects of Heat and Cold inc. hyperthermia, and heat stroke
Course duration
The course is usually held over two continuous days totalling 16hrs including coffee/lunch breaks however, we can tailor courses to meet your specific needs. The course is normally held at Bridge Safety and Training premises although, if required we can deliver the course at the client’s premises specifically for their employees.
Assessment and certification
Assessment is visual throughout. Upon successful completion, first aiders receive certification valid for three years after which, a repeat of the Activity First Aid Course is required to renew the qualification for a further 3 years. It is strongly recommended that you update your skills by taking an annual refresher. Please note that although anyone aged 14+ can attend the Activity First Aid course and be certificated as such. It is only when the young learner reaches the age of 16 and able to work full-time; that the official title of First Aider can come into effect.
